Vowel 10: /ʌ/


Comparison with Spanish

English /ʌ/ and Spanish /a/ are both central, but Spanish /a/ is more open. The lips are neutral. The most common spellings for this sound are:

<u> uncle, butter, mud
<o> gloves, mother, son

Practice

- Tell my mum to come at once.
- Don't run in the sun.
